Adrian Poole is Emeritus Professor of English Literature at the University of Cambridge, and a Fellow of Trinity College. His work has been much concerned with the afterlives of Shakespeare, the most substantial products of which are a book on Shakespeare and the Victorians (2003) and the series Great Shakespeareans in 18 vols. (2011–14), co-edited with Peter Holland. He has written on Dickens, George Eliot, Thomas Hardy, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Henry James, and his wider interest in the novel is represented by the Cambridge Companion to English Novelists (2009).
