Date of plenary session to be confirmed in due course.
The first Shakespeare play to be filmed at Stratford was a production of Richard III in 1911. Now every play in the canon is being recorded and broadcast live in the Royal Shakespeare Company Live From Stratford-upon-Avon series. In this opening plenary session Gregory Doran will use a film archive of the RSC’s work spanning half a century to explore the artistic life and history of the company. This represents a rare opportunity to share in and explore the creative life of one of the world’s leading theatre companies captured on film. The session will include rarely seen footage of past productions alongside examples of the RSC’s most up to date work on film. What have we learnt about the challenge and process of translating Shakespeare’s words onto film?
